Have you ever found yourself saying or thinking these things?

"I can't seem to get (or stay) motivated."

"I exercise for a day or two, but I don't notice any changes, so I stop."

"It's too hard to constantly eat the right foods."

"I should work out, but I just don't have the time."

You are not alone if you have ever said or thought something like this. We are going to help you get started on your goals so you will never have to think or say these things again.

The Importance of Knowing Your Why

The key to achieving your health and fitness goals is understanding your "why", which is a crucial step that is often missed. Knowing your "why" doesn't only help you with your health and fitness goals but also helps achieve goals in your everyday life.

Do you want to exercise because you know how great you will feel both physically and mentally after working out regularly? But do you find it difficult to form new habits or to stay motivated over the long run?

Before you start setting goals and figuring out how to accomplish them, you must first figure out why you truly want to reach those goals. Doing this will help you find the root cause of your pain, which is going to keep driving you to stay on track month after month. Motivation comes and goes, but knowing you're why will help regain motivation along the way.

What Is Your Why

The first thing you'll want to do is grab a piece of paper and pen and brainstorm a list of goals that you want to accomplish. Once you are satisfied with your list, I want you to highlight 1-2 points that mean the most to you.

Figuring Out Your Why

So, how do you figure out the why behind your goal?

A good way to pinpoint the reasoning behind your goal is to ask yourself why you want to achieve the "X" goal. Once you have your answer, ask yourself why again to that answer. You want to do this about five more times, but feel free to keep going until you get to the root cause.

This simple yet powerful exercise helps us get to the root core of why we want something.

Here's an example:

*Why do I want to lose fat?*

-Because I want to fit into a smaller size of jeans.

*And why does that matter?*

-Because I think I'll look better when I’m wearing smaller jeans.

*Why do I want to look better?

-Because when I look good, I feel good about myself.

*Why do I want to feel good about myself?

-Because I'm more assertive and confident when I feel good about myself.

*Why do I want to be more assertive and confident?

-Because when I’m more assertive and confident, I’m in control and better able to get what I want out of life.

If we don't know why we want to achieve a specific goal, then our mind and body will make it ten times hard to make those goals become a reality. We need to live by our most deeply held values if we want to be truly happy, healthy, strong, and fit.

Depending on the reasoning of your why, it can cause a lot of emotion reading it When it's emotional, it means it is important for you, which will help drive you to achieve that goal.

Once you have figured out the reason(s) behind your goal, write it down somewhere and put it in plain sight. On days that you don't want to go to the gym and you rather keep watching your Netflix show, being able to see your why will help give you the motivation to get up and get that workout in.

Knowing your "why" gives you the internal drive you need to establish and achieve fitness goals.

The Next Step

When you find the "why" behind your goals, it's time to take action. The next step would be to learn how to implement them into your everyday life. You can do this by creating SMART goals.
